The Ministry of Justice of Tatarstan informs about safety rules during icy conditions

Black ice is a natural phenomenon that poses a danger not only to pedestrians, but also to drivers.

To minimize the risk of injury and accidents, it is important to follow a few simple safety rules:

FOR PEDESTRIANS

1. Pay attention to your shoes: when going outside, you should wear shoes with a low or low wide heel with a non-slip surface. Shoes with a flat sole are ideal.

2. When moving, step on the entire sole of the shoe. At the same time, your feet should be relaxed, your hands free. Try not to carry heavy bags, do not keep your hands in your pockets - this increases the likelihood of falling. Calculate your route in advance so that you can move carefully, without rushing

3. Avoid places covered with ice and snow. A small layer of snow on ice is very dangerous! If this is not possible, move in small steps, without lifting your feet off the ground. Try to avoid inclined surfaces.

4. When crossing the road, even at a controlled crossing, be careful and cautious. Make sure the car has stopped before crossing the road.

5. When waiting for public transport at a stop, do not stand close to the edge of the roadway. When boarding and disembarking, pay attention to the steps - there may be snow or ice on them

FOR CAR OWNERS

1. Determine how slippery the road is (visually or by braking or accelerating). You can check the traction of the wheels by sharply pressing the gas pedal or the brake pedal. If the drive wheels begin to slip, then the road is quite slippery.

2. Choose the right braking method! Do not try to brake abruptly, in one movement! The most appropriate way to stop the car, for example, intermittent (periodically pressing the brake pedal and releasing it completely) or step braking.

3. Follow safety rules on turns:

  • move at low speed;
  • avoid braking on turns;
  • when turning and exiting the road, turn the steering wheel very smoothly;
  • when stopping the car, reduce the speed to a minimum in advance, and then brake smoothly.

4. Choose the correct maneuvering technique when climbing and descending. When overcoming slippery climbs, select the appropriate gear and speed in advance.
