In Laishevo, the birthplace of the outstanding Russian poet and statesman Gavriil Romanovich Derzhavin, a solemn ceremony was held to award the laureates of the Republican G.R. Derzhavin Prize.
Rustem Zagidullin, Minister of Justice of Tatarstan, addressed the participants with a welcoming speech, emphasizing the special significance of Derzhavin's personality for the republic: «In the republic, the name of Gavriil Romanovich Derzhavin is always remembered with special warmth. His small homeland is proud of its great son - a Russian poet and statesman of the Russian Empire».
The minister recalled Derzhavin's multifaceted activities: «Gavriil Derzhavin was the first Minister of Justice of the Russian Empire, Prosecutor General, and dedicated more than 40 years of his life to military and state service. He headed the preparation of drafts for many laws concerning, above all, courts, prosecutor's offices, correctional institutions, and the bar».
Noting Tatarstan's success as one of the leading regions of the Russian Federation, the minister emphasized the importance of the legal component in development. «The large innovative projects implemented in the republic set high standards of living for the population. At the same time, it is the duty of government bodies and civil society institutions to ensure conditions for a peaceful life and successful development, including from a legal perspective», - emphasized Rustem Zagidullin.
This year, the competition for the Republican G.R. Derzhavin Prize was held in the field of «jurisprudence». Applications were submitted by leading universities in Tatarstan. According to Rustem Zagidullin, the topics of the presented works covered a wide range of issues, including historical and criminological research, the study of local self-government in land relations, the implementation of artificial intelligence in justice, and the regulation of 3D printing of human organs.
The winner of the competition was recognized as Doctor of Law, Professor Damir Khamitovich Valeev, for his work «Collected Works in Five Volumes». «We sincerely congratulate Damir Khamitovich», - said the minister, announcing the results. He noted that the author's works are devoted to scientific research in enforcement proceedings and civil procedure. «Unfortunately, the laureate could not come to the celebration today, but the award will definitely be presented», - assured the minister, concluding his speech.
