Snow and icicles falling from roofs

18 February 2025, Tuesday

Falling snow and icicles from roofs is a fairly common problem in winter and can be dangerous to people and property. To avoid injury and damage, basic safety precautions should be observed:

1. Be careful not to move close to the walls of buildings and under balconies.

2. Warn children of the danger! Explain to them that playing under a dangerous roof can end sadly.

3. Do not ignore fences and warning signs on buildings about possible snowfall or falling icicles, and do not try to pass over fences. Take a different route!

4. The presence of traces of previously fallen snow or ice shards on the sidewalk indicates the possibility of remaining snow and icicles.

5. If you hear a suspicious noise from above while walking on the sidewalk, do not stop and look up. It could be a snow or ice block coming down. Don't run away from the building! Press yourself as close to the wall as possible, the roof overhang will serve as shelter.

6. If you see a person injured by an icicle or snow falling from the roof, call an ambulance immediately!

Be attentive and take care of your safety and the safety of others!
