The XIII St. Petersburg International Legal Forum held discussions on key issues of the modern legal field, including the development of the free legal aid system.
At the session «Right to be in the right: free legal aid through the prism of international experience» it was noted that today the institution of free legal aid is one of the most popular mechanisms for protecting the rights and legitimate interests of socially vulnerable categories of citizens who cannot afford to pay for the labour of lawyers.
Earlier, the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustem Zagidullin noted that in Tatarstan in 2024, free legal aid was provided to 4,164 citizens, which is 63% higher than in 2023. The growth trend continues this year - in the first quarter of 2025 alone, more than 1,500 people have already received such assistance.
The Forum, which has become a traditional meeting place for legal professionals and public figures, includes an extensive programme of 120 events covering a wide range of topical legal topics. The scale of the event is confirmed by the presence of about 5,000 delegates from 81 countries, which makes the Forum one of the largest international legal events.
