Fraudsters are increasingly using a new deception scenario involving the transfer of money to other people's cards.
Telegram channel «We explain.RF» told you how to avoid participating in a crime and what to do if money has been received into your account from a stranger.
Attackers usually transfer money to other people's cards for two reasons. The first is to complicate the traces of money laundering. In this case, scammers may claim that the transfer occurred accidentally and offer to refund the amount to another account, keeping some of the funds for themselves «for inconvenience». If a person agrees, he automatically becomes an accomplice to the crime. The second is the use of such transfers for blackmail. After receiving the money, the scammers demand to return it to the account they specified, and if they refuse, they threaten criminal prosecution for «financing criminals».
It is best to contact the bank's branch in person and write a refund request to the sender. Experts will tell you what further steps to take. If you receive threats or demand a refund after the transfer, it is important to contact the police. It should be remembered that an attempt to keep even part of the «random» funds for yourself can lead to criminal liability.
