Bicycle thefts continue in Kazan. The Ministry of Justice of Tatarstan draws citizens’ attention to the inadmissibility of stealing other people’s property
As noted by Ramis Valiullin, Justice of the Peace for Court Precinct № 3 in Kazan’s Kirovsky District, bicycles are most frequently stolen from the entrance halls of apartment buildings.
Recently, the justice of the peace heard another case involving a Kazan resident who stole a bicycle worth 10 000 rubles. The man took advantage of an unlocked entrance door to an apartment building and fled on the stolen vehicle. The next day, he sold it to a secondhand shop for 5 000 rubles, which he spent on personal needs.
After the preliminary investigation authorities established his involvement in the crime and a criminal case was opened, the Kazan resident acknowledged his wrongdoing, apologized, and compensated the damage in the amount of 15 000 rubles - exceeding the value of the stolen property.
Taking into account the defendant’s repentance and the reconciliation of the parties, the justice of the peace terminated the criminal case, emphasizing: «Theft of property is always an offense with all the ensuing consequences. However, justice takes circumstances into account: if a person has committed an offense for the first time, sincerely repented, and fully made amends to the victim, the court may decide to terminate the case», explained Ramis Valiullin.
