On July 5, 2021, the Law of the Republic of Tatarstan No. 43-ZRT dated June 22, 2021 "On Amendments to Articles 6 and 7 of the Law of the Republic of Tatarstan "On Magistrates of the Republic of Tatarstan" (hereinafter – Law No. 43-ZRT) came into force.
Law No. 43-ZRT specifies the procedure for election to the position of a justice of the peace.
In addition, changes have been made, according to which a justice of the peace is elected for the first time for a term of three years. After the expiration of the specified period, the person who held the position of a justice of the peace has the right to nominate his candidacy for election to this position again. When re-elected to the post, a justice of the peace is elected to the corresponding position without term limits. The maximum age for serving as a justice of the peace is 70 years.
